Terre Nere is a family estate founded by Pasquale Vallone near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, southeast of Montalcino and close to the Castello della Velona. The estate covers about 15 hectares, with roughly 10 hectares planted to vines, principally Sangiovese with a small parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon. The name refers to the dark, mineral soils influenced by the area's geology and proximity to Monte Amiata.
