What it tastes like

Fuller and darker than a cool-climate Pinot Noir: ripe blackberry and dark berry fruit, plum and brambleberry, with vanilla bean and toasted oak from 14 months in French oak, soft tannins and a smooth, faintly sweet-edged finish.

You’ll like this if…

You like smooth, fruit-forward California reds and find lean, earthy red Burgundy or Oregon Pinot too tart or austere.

Why buy it

An estate-grown Pinot Noir from LODI RULES certified family vineyards, with real French oak aging, at a price that makes it an easy house red.

Best for

Everyday dinners, mixed-crowd gatherings, and holiday meals where you need one red that pleases everyone.

Style

Warm-climate, oak-influenced Pinot Noir - medium-bodied, low in grip, generous with ripe fruit, with a touch of residual sugar softening the finish rather than reading as sweet.

Drinks like

Sits close to other warm-region California Pinot Noirs and to softer Merlot; a step riper and rounder than Sonoma Coast or Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.

Experience level

Beginner-friendly; nothing here needs decoding

Pairs well with

roast chicken or herb-rubbed turkey breast · grilled pork chops or sausage with caramelized onions · backyard burgers or barbecued chicken with a sweet-smoky sauce · mushroom pasta or tomato-based baked ziti · aged gouda or mild cheddar · roasted beets, lentils, or a mushroom and barley risotto

About the winery · Oak Ridge Winery ›

Oak Ridge Winery sits on Victor Road east of Lodi, California, and dates to 1934, when it operated as a growers' cooperative. It is now run by the Maggio family, who have farmed grapes in Lodi across six generations, and the winery produces a number of labels including Old Soul, OZV, Maggio, 3 Girls and Moss Roxx. Old Soul is the family's estate-grown brand, with a label showing an old oak tree - roots deep, branches reaching up - refreshed in 2023 with a tire swing and printed on 100% recycled paper stock. The family's vineyards are audited and certified annually by LODI RULES, so the wines carry the program's Certified Green seal. The Old Soul lineup covers six approachable wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah, Folklore Red Blend, Old Vine Zinfandel and this Pinot Noir.
