About the winery · Penfolds ›

Penfolds traces its origins to 1844, when Dr. Christopher and Mary Penfold established the winery at Magill Estate in South Australia. Mary Penfold played a central role in the early development of the estate and its reputation. Max Schubert became Penfolds' first Chief Winemaker in 1948 and later created Grange, the wine that helped define the producer's modern fame. The Max's tier honors Schubert and is presented by Penfolds as a polished, approachable range focused on varietal character, fruit and structure.
