What it tastes like

Ripe red cherry and plum up front, a little sweet-edged, with soft leather and forest-floor notes underneath and a whisper of vanilla from oak. Light tannin, smooth texture, gentle finish.

You’ll like this if…

You like smooth, fruity reds and find Cabernet too firm - think Meiomi, Barefoot or Mark West Pinot Noir drinkers.

Why buy it

Under ten dollars for a recognizable California Pinot Noir from a historic Napa house. It is a reliable house red and an easy bottle to bring when you do not know the crowd.

Best for

Everyday drinking, big gatherings, and food that is savory rather than spicy.

Style

Soft, ripe, fruit-forward California Pinot Noir in a crowd-pleasing commercial style; light-to-medium bodied and dry, with just enough sweet fruit impression to feel round.

Drinks like

Sits alongside other value California Pinot Noirs and soft Merlots; lighter and smoother than a Cabernet Sauvignon, riper and rounder than a red Burgundy at any price.

Experience level

Beginner-friendly

Pairs well with

roast or rotisserie chicken · pork tenderloin with apples or a simple pork chop · cedar-plank or maple-glazed salmon · charcuterie board with mild cheeses · mushroom pasta or risotto · thanksgiving turkey and the trimmings

About the winery · Beaulieu Vineyard ›

Beaulieu Vineyard was founded in Rutherford, Napa Valley in 1900 by Georges de Latour and his wife Fernande. It is one of California's most historically important wineries, best known for its Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and for the concept of 'Rutherford dust.' The Coastal Estates line is BV's entry-level, widely distributed range, made from purchased California fruit rather than the Napa estate vineyards behind the winery's reserve bottlings. These wines are built for consistency and value, delivering recognizable varietal character at a supermarket price. Buyers should keep the two tiers separate: a Coastal Estates bottle is not the same wine as a BV Napa Valley or Rutherford Reserve bottling.
