Poggio al Tufo is Tommasi Family Estates' Tuscan Maremma property and was the family's first estate outside Valpolicella, purchased in 1997. The property is based around Pitigliano in the province of Grosseto, an Etruscan area known for volcanic tuff soils. Rompicollo is described by the producer as the flagship wine of the Poggio al Tufo project and the first wine the Tommasi family made in Tuscany. The wine is built as a warm, refined Sangiovese-Cabernet blend rather than a varietal Cabernet Sauvignon.
