Viña Santa Rita was founded in 1880 by Don Domingo Fernández Concha in Chile's Maipo Valley. The winery's history is tied to the introduction of French grape varieties and French winemaking expertise into Chile. Santa Rita became part of the Claro Group in 1980, after which the company invested in quality and export growth. Medalla Real Gold Medal commemorates the success of a 1984 Medalla Real Cabernet Sauvignon that helped raise international awareness of Maipo Cabernet.
