What it tastes like

Dense black cherry, dried plum, cocoa, licorice, sweet tobacco, and warm spice wrapped in a powerful but polished frame.

You’ll like this if…

Choose this if you like rich Italian reds, appassimento wines, Brunello with more weight, or California Cabernet-style richness but want an Old World savory edge.

Why buy it

This is Tommasi's classic Amarone, not a sibling Ripasso or second label, and it delivers the dried-grape concentration, 15% ABV depth, and long oak aging expected from the category.

Best for

A centerpiece bottle for braised meats, game, aged cheese, or a quiet after-dinner pour.

Style

Full-bodied, dry, concentrated, polished, and warming, with ripe/dried dark fruit balanced by acidity and savory spice.

Drinks like

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, richer Valpolicella Ripasso, mature Brunello di Montalcino, and structured Super Tuscan reds.

Experience level

Good for curious red-wine drinkers through experienced collectors; bold enough for newcomers to notice, but structured and traditional enough for Amarone fans.

Pairs well with

roasted venison or wild boar ragu · braised short ribs or grilled ribeye · aged parmigiano-reggiano or long-aged mountain cheeses · serve after dinner with hard cheese and slow sipping

About the winery · Tommasi Viticoltori ›

Tommasi is a historic Valpolicella Classica family producer founded in 1902, when Giacomo Tommasi acquired a small plot in the region. The producer's first official Amarone Classico vintage was 1959, and Amarone remains central to the family's identity. Tommasi is now run by the fourth generation and has grown into Tommasi Family Estates, with vineyard holdings across several Italian wine regions while maintaining its roots in Valpolicella Classica. The Valpolicella estate includes important sites such as La Groletta, acquired in 2000, and Conca d'Oro.
