Charles Smith Wines was founded by Charles Smith, whose background included managing rock bands in Europe before he began making wine in Washington. The producer released its first 330 cases in 2001, after Smith was encouraged to start making wine during a trip to Walla Walla. The brand emphasizes bold, instantly recognizable labels and approachable wines meant to be drunk the way people actually enjoy them.
