Mer Soleil began after a search down the California coast for land suited to Chardonnay. The Wagner family planted roots in the Santa Lucia Highlands within Monterey County, an area they describe as ideal for Chardonnay because of its farming history and cool coastal influence. The brand was started by Chuck Wagner of Caymus Vineyards and is now led by his son, winemaker Charlie Wagner. Charlie Wagner created Silver as the unoaked expression of Mer Soleil Chardonnay and has also expanded sourcing to other parts of Monterey County.
